You use SecBrain to document your life. You have tasks, appointments, journal entries, contacts. All of it sits in your personal context.

The problem: your AI knows nothing about it.

As long as you do not actively connect it, SecBrain stays a closed system. Useful, but isolated. The link between your documentation and your AI is what turns a good answer into a genuinely helpful one.

That is exactly what this post sets up. Step by step.

What happens when you connect?

SecBrain provides so-called MCP servers. MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open interface that lets compatible AI systems access external data sources directly.

Once you add a SecBrain MCP server to your AI, that AI can access your data directly when needed. Not permanently, not in the background. Only when you ask it something and the answer needs this context.

You ask Claude: „What are my most important tasks for today?“ Claude quietly calls your SecBrain todos server. Then Claude answers, with real data from your life.

The SecBrain MCP modules

SecBrain is not one single big server. There are six modules, each for its own area of your digital self. You activate only the ones you actually need.

You do not have to set them all up. Start with what you use most. Todos and calendar are a solid entry point.

How the login works

Authentication runs via OAuth. That means you never hand your AI any credentials. On the first connection you are redirected to a SecBrain login page, sign in there with your SecBrain account and grant the connection your consent once.

After that the connection is active. No password stored in the AI, no permanent data stream. Just an authorized interface that your AI uses when needed.

Which AI is the right choice for you?

Claude (Anthropic) and ChatGPT (OpenAI) are US services. Data that flows over these connections is processed on infrastructure outside the EU. For many users that is no problem. For others it is.

For European users to whom data sovereignty matters, we recommend Mistral. Le Chat runs in the EU and is subject to European data protection law. Your requests and the context from SecBrain therefore never leave the European legal space.

If you are unsure: Mistral is the more conservative choice.

Setup step by step

Pick your provider and follow the steps. The approach is similar for all three: enter the URL, name it, sign in via OAuth.

Set up SecBrain in Claude

Open claude.ai and sign in.
Click your profile picture in the bottom left, then Settings.
Go to Integrations (or „Connectors“).
Click Add integration.
Enter the SecBrain URL you want, for example https://api.secbrain.io/mcp/todos.
Give it a name, for example „SecBrain Todos“.
Click Connect. You are redirected to the OAuth login.
Sign in with your SecBrain account and confirm access.

Repeat the process for every module you want to connect. From now on Claude can access your SecBrain data whenever you ask something that needs this context.

Set up SecBrain in ChatGPT

Open the ChatGPT desktop app.
Go to Settings, then Connected apps (or „Connectors“ / „Tools“).
Click Add new connection.
Choose MCP server as the connection type.
Enter the URL of the module you want, for example https://api.secbrain.io/mcp/calendar.
Give it a name and click Connect.
Complete the OAuth login with your SecBrain account.

Note: the ChatGPT interface can differ between versions. If you cannot find the option directly, look under Settings for „Plugins“, „Tools“ or „Third-party integrations“.

Set up SecBrain in Mistral / Le Chat

Open chat.mistral.ai and sign in.
Navigate to Settings, then Tools or Agents.
Click Add MCP server.
Enter the SecBrain URL you want.
Give the connection a name.
Click Connect and sign in via OAuth with your SecBrain account.

Mistral can then access your SecBrain data on matching requests. Le Chat runs in the EU, so your context never leaves the European legal space.

Which modules do you really need?

Not every module is relevant for everyone. Here is some orientation:

For a daily overview: todos and calendar. This combination is enough for your AI to give you a solid answer to „What is on today?“.

For reflection and self-knowledge: diary and journal. Useful if you use your AI as a companion for personal development.

For relationship context: persons. When you document conversations with contacts in SecBrain and want your AI to take that into account.

For activity tracking: activities. Relevant if you track sport, working hours or other recurring tasks and want to spot patterns.

You can add new modules or remove existing ones at any time. The control stays with you.

Your data, your decision

One important point: the MCP connection does not give your AI permanent access. It only queries SecBrain when you ask a question that needs this context. And only for the modules you have actively connected.

What you do not connect, the AI does not see.

That is not by chance. That is deliberate design. Your context belongs to you. You decide which AI gets how much of it.
